Health & wellbeing of our staff

28th July 2014

GSF take the safety of our staff and others, who are affected by our activities very seriously. Safety has become a part of our corporate culture and staff behaviour, we have implemented and continually improve safe systems of work, our Company has achieved a number of safety accreditations including OHSAS 18001.

Though we consider, maintain and improve safety daily, we would also like to raise the awareness of our staff and others about the importance of good health and how it contributes to one's wellbeing. For the last 2 years, GSF have been supporting client's initiative – we have been taking part in the international charity bike ride and our team of riders have worked hard to be able to cycle over 1450 kilometres together with the client's team. We now feel that it is the right time to share our knowledge, experiences and understanding and the importance of being in good health – physical and mental, and therefore GSF will be taking part in a yearlong event, which is organised by one of our major clients – Southern Water Services. The aim of this event is to raise the awareness and improve the health and wellbeing to people both inside and outside of work.

As the year will go on, we will be sharing our experiences and information on this web site and I would like to welcome everyone, who decides to participate and sets themselves any goals. Good luck in your journey and hope this year helps you and your families and friends to become healthier and happier!

Updating our COSHH risk assessments

24th July 2014

European Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures came into force on 20 January 2009 in all EU Member States, including the UK. It is known by its abbreviated form, 'the CLP Regulation' or just plain 'CLP'.

CLP will replace stepwise DSD and DPD, respectively the Dangerous Substances Directive (67/548/EEC) and the Dangerous Preparations Directive (1999/45/EC). These two directives shall be repealed with effect from 1st June 2015. From this date on CLP will be the only valid law for classification and labelling of substances and mixtures.

GSF, as an employer, in accordance with our duty of care, have started reviewing COSHH risk assessments. The process will be completed after 1st June 2015., when manufacturers of substances and mixtures (here: cleaning chemicals) will make updated Safety Data Sheets Available to end users.

Meanwhile, our staff will be trained to recognise new pictograms (to the right), should they be placed on chemical bottles before the above date.

For more information please also visit HSE website or contact your GSF Area Manager or Maya Petere, H&S Manager via our website.
